Does AI search (ChatGPT, Gemini) know your business?

More and more people skip the list of links and simply ask: "Who is a good plumber in Knysna?" ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI assistants answer with a few names. Is yours one of them?

Nobody can promise an AI tool will recommend you: they decide for themselves, and their answers change. But you can find out where you stand in five minutes, and make it much easier for them to know you.

Test it yourself

Open ChatGPT or Gemini and ask, in your customers' words:

Ask
What are the best [your service] businesses in [your town]?
Ask
Who can I call for [your service] near [your suburb] this weekend?
Ask
What do people say about [your business name]?

Note who it names, whether you are there, and whether what it says about you is right. Ask again in a month.

Where AI tools learn about you

Your website

What you do, where, for whom, and what it costs, in plain words.

Your Google listing

Your categories, hours, phone, photos and what customers say.

Reviews

What customers say about you, in their own words, in many places.

Other websites

Directories, local news, suppliers and associations that mention you.

AI assistants answer from what they can read about you across the web.

Five things you can do this month

  1. 1

Say it plainly on your website

Your service, your town and the areas you cover, near the top of the page. AI tools quote clear sentences, not clever slogans.

  2. 2

    Answer the questions customers ask

Prices or a price range, how long it takes, what areas you serve, how to book. An FAQ page is ideal.

  3. 3

Do not block the AI readers

Some websites stop AI tools from reading them without the owner knowing. Ask whoever built your site to check.

  4. 4

Keep your details the same everywhere

The same name, address and phone on your website, your Google listing and every directory.

  5. 5

    Keep reviews coming

Fresh reviews give AI tools something recent and real to say about you.

Check it properly

The Witty Worx Discoverability report asks AI search tools whether they know your business, shows what your website never says, and checks whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and other AI readers are allowed to read your site.
